Deadline Extended for Housing Flat and Land Applications

The Maldives government has extended the deadline for applications under the Aailee Boahiyavahikan housing scheme, giving more time for eligible applicants to submit their forms.
According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the new deadline for both flat and land plot applications is 11:59 PM on April 30. Previously, flat applications were due by April 17, while land applications were set to close on March 4.
The housing initiative, launched on January 18, aims to address the capital’s housing shortage by issuing 7,000 flats and 15,000 land plots, each measuring 1,250 square feet.
As of the latest update, authorities had received 5,067 applications, including 3,434 for flats and 1,633 for land plots. In addition, more than 11,000 applications remained in draft form, indicating strong public interest in the scheme.
Eligibility for the programme includes registered residents of Malé and individuals from other islands who have lived in the capital for at least 15 years. Of the flats to be issued, 4,000 units are reserved for Malé residents, 1,500 for long-term migrants to the city, and 2,400 for special categories.
The government also plans to issue a total of 25,000 land plots from the reclaimed Rasmale’ area, with 15,000 plots allocated in this first phase. Officials noted that additional policy adjustments and new housing programmes are being prepared to address applicants currently restricted by eligibility rules.
