The Maldives Investment Forum was held at the Dubai Exhibition Centre on 26th October. The event graced by His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih was also attended by the Minister of Economic Development HE. Fayyaz Ismail, the Minister of Tourism HE. Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure HE. Mohamed Aslam. Corporate leaders and investors from UAE, Maldives and other countries attended the event along with representatives of Chambers of Commerce and trade associations. The objective of the forum was to promote the Maldives as an attractive destination to the international investment community and to showcase investment opportunities in the Maldives.
In the keynote address, the President highlighted some of the key areas of development in the Maldives and the concrete steps his government is taking to foster an enabling environment for investors. New islands for tourist resort development was launched in the event and the President invited investors to be part of the Maldives’ tourism success story. The President also highlighted the Maldives’ bold target to achieve Net Zero Emissions by 2030 and emphasised the priority given by his Government for promoting renewable energy and low carbon development.
In his address, the Minister of Economic Development, Fayyaz Ismail noted the great promise shown by the Maldivian economy in its recovery from the pandemic. The Minister also outlined the strategic development priorities of the Government to achieve economic decentralization and diversification. The crucial role played by foreign investments in the development of the Maldivian economy was lauded by the Minister and he emphasised that the doors of Maldives are always open for investments.
The Minister of tourism looked at the special characteristics that nature has endowed upon the Maldives. The Minister highlighted the current expansionary direction for the industry, which not only takes into consideration the preservation of the sublime beauty and the delicate natural environment of the Maldives, but diversification of the industry to offer a richer broader experience for visitors, which would also encompass a broad array of experiences.
