The High Commission of Maldives in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia organized a webinar titled “Invest in Maldives” to provide an overview of investment opportunities for Malaysian investors interested in the Maldives.
With the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, Hon. Mohamed Aslam attending to officiate, the webinar was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Tourism, Maldives Fund Management Corporation, and the Housing Development Corporation, which was coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry of Economic Development, jointly with the Maldives Fund Management Corporation delivered a presentation on investment opportunities and the investment climate in Maldives, to more than 100 participants that included diplomats, corporate leaders, investors and businesses based in Malaysia.
In his keynote speech, Minister Aslam spoke on the recovery of the economy after the shocks of the Covid-19 pandemic, noting the increase in tourist arrivals in 2021 as a clear sign of improvement. While affirming to the investors their return on investment from their ventures in Maldives, the Minister spoke regarding infrastructural developments and investment opportunities in mega projects in the Maldives.
Also speaking at the event was the High Commissioner of Malaysia to the Maldives, H.E. Tang Yang Thai, who highlighted the close bilateral ties between the Maldives and Malaysia in different business sectors and international forums such as, Colombo Plan, NAM, and other multilateral forums.
The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel thanked all of the participants and presenters for their respective roles at the webinar, and expressed hope that new initiatives will flourish after this introductory webinar. Minister Khaleel extended a special thanks to Minister Aslam for his participation stating that this was a reflection of the commitment and respect the Government of Maldives accords to the close bilateral ties between Malaysia and Maldives.
