Government Seeks Contractor to Build 1000 Flats in Hulhumalé

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced plans to develop 1000 new housing units in Hulhumalé as part of the government’s ongoing affordable housing initiative.
According to the ministry, interested Maldivian companies are invited to submit proposals for the design and construction of the flats under the “Affordable Home Ownership” program. The deadline for proposal submissions is March 23, while queries must be emailed to the ministry before March 8.
Officials stated that the project aims to expand access to affordable housing while supporting infrastructure development and improving residents’ quality of life. The initiative is also expected to create opportunities for local real estate developers to strengthen their technical capacity and industry experience.
The government has recently intensified efforts to address housing demand across the Maldives. As part of these broader plans, 3,260 housing units are currently being developed through the Bank of Maldives under the Inclusive National Affordable Housing (INAH) policy introduced by the Maldives Monetary Authority.
Those units are being constructed by five contractors across Hulhumalé Phase 1, Hulhumalé Phase 3, and Vilimalé.
The newly announced 1,000-flat project is expected to further accelerate the government’s affordable housing agenda and help meet growing demand for residential units in the Greater Malé region.
